Sony Ericsson Mobile Phones
Japanese electronic corporation Sony and the Ericsson from Sweden outline a joint venture, offering a wide range of cell phones to customers in across continents. In the US, their cell phones are available without carrier contracts, giving the buyers much less to think about while choosing a new phone and connection (network coverage). It can be worth the while to go through every model in the shop without having to worry about the "right combination" which is a very common factor while buying mobiles under most brands in the US.
The joint venture between the two companies rolled out in October 2001. Since then the company had shown a remarkable improvement throughout the initial years before the economic slowdown. Sony Ericsson had almost doubled its sales every year before it stumbled over the recent meltdown in international markets. While the company made an effort to hold a good position in the international market, Nokia and a few other competitors had already gained stronghold in most markets of the world.

The initial years of the company have been marked by a great amount of competitiveness that helped them earn about 350 million Euros in 2004 alone, as net profit. Thereon, the company's performance through the next few years reached leading scales, touching about 1.1 billion Euros in 2007. However, Sony Ericsson mobiles are available throughout the US on a more frequent basis than other carrier-free phones like Nokia.
Some of the remarkable success stories of the company are based on the enterprises behind the Walkman K750i. It was built for a wide range of users like college students, professionals, music lovers and anybody who wanted a new and unique looking cell phone. This model and those similarly built by Sony Ericsson had major influences on mobiles built by other companies as well.
Sony Ericsson has earned popularity also over the inclusion of the Cyber-shot feature including a 2-mega pixel camera. By 2005, Sony Ericsson had also launched the W800i as part of the Walkman-Cyber-shot series. A healthy beginning of the company included the glamorous launch of the earlier models like the P800 and P900 in Las Vegas and Beijing respectively in 2003. Thereafter in 2004, the company's mobile phones shared about 7 percent of the world cell phone sales as they also launched the P910 Communicator.
The company has also been a major endorser of important sports events like the WTA Tour and Cricket, mainly in the West Indies since 2005. With later models coming by, the P990 has gained immense popularity amongst business and personal users in the US. The latest launches also include phones, which are categorized as phones with special focus on camera, entertainment, designer orientation as well as Vodafone based carrier phones.
With a heavy loss in income over a few quarters (after the economic slowdown), the company decided to take certain measures, which included a cost-effective stance of producing some of its mobile phones from India. The number of annual shipments procured in the last year (2009) tip over 55 million with a present market share of just less than 5 percent.
